Bookkeeping for expat entrepreneurs in the Netherlands

What you deal with in the Netherlands
Once you run a business here, the same rules apply as for Dutch entrepreneurs. In broad strokes:
- Registration with the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) and, in most cases, a VAT number.
- VAT returns, usually quarterly.
- Income tax (for a sole proprietorship) or corporate tax (for a BV).
- Payroll administration, as soon as you take on staff.
- Books that are accurate and up to date, because the Dutch Tax Administration expects your figures to be in order.
The exact rules, rates and deductions depend on your situation and change regularly. So always get advice on your specific case rather than relying on general information.
